Many, many years ago, when I was a little girl, I very distinctly remember my grandmother getting a brand new car. Which in my family, for my farmer grandfather and mother was a huge deal. She got a beautiful powder blue Buick Century, and it even had power windows! All of that aside, it was very much an old lady car, but it worked for her because she was in fact an old lady.
Why am I telling you all of this about my family history with the Buick brand?
Here’s why. My oldest son competed in the 2nd leg of the AAU Junior Olympics in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Making the drive from our home in Louisville on the windy mountain roads can make for an arduous road trip.
We were fortunate to travel to Knoxville in the 2018 Buick Enclave. The full sized SUV was not so large that I felt uncomfortable behind the wheel.
With the car loaded down (snacks, running gear, and suitcases) and our eyes on the prize (a ticket to the big dance in Des Moines) we were ready to take to the road.
Because when we travel for sporting events, we almost always have a lot of extra gear than a typical road trip we had the third row down and the boys happily situated in the 2nd row captain’s chairs.

You know that one? Or the one where people are looking for their friends saying I don’t see a Buick.
Buick has overhauled their look so much that they truly are offering up what young moms (humor me here) like me are looking for.
The extremely well appointed Enclave, was a very pleasant surprise. The exterior is very sleek, but the interior is next level luxury.
The buttery leather seats seemed to wrap me in comfort, seriously, they might have been the most comfortable seats inside of a car that I’ve been privileged to sit in. Plus, the front seats were also equipped with air conditioning, which in the very humid climate in which we live is a life saver. No sweaty backs for the hubs and I…the kids however, were on their own.
This seems like such a seemingly small detail, but the feature that I loved the most in the Buick Enclave was the weather tracking with the navigation. It was so helpful to be able to look along the route and see what we were potentially driving into, and how long we would have do deal with the current weather situation.
Oh wait! I spoke too soon about my favorite feature. The available WiFi in the car was a total life saver. We have driven cars with rear entertainment systems, and I like those a lot. Here’s the thing though, as my kids are getting older, they are liking different things, so an entertainment system only offering one option doesn’t do the trick quiet like it used to. So, my youngest was content watching the Greatest Showman and singing along (very loudly) on his iPad and my oldest was playing games on his iPod. The point here is that each was happily doing their own thing, with minimal fighting.
As trivial as it may seem, being able to get my runner dude to our destination, comfortably with minimal stress really helps to set the stage for a good performance. At the end of the day it paid off, he was 2nd in his race with a huge personal record. Obviously his hard work and dedication was the ultimate factor in his success, but getting there in the 2018 Buick Enclave didn’t hurt either.
