Family Fun at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH

Family Fun at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH

This last week I had the opportunity to take my 9 and 12 year old daughters to Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio while on a break from a dance competition taking place at the nearby Kalihari resort. My family and I love roller coasters, but I have to admit, even I was nervous about some of the coasters at Cedar Point.
IMG_3382Who wouldn’t be?! After all Cedar Point has 17 pretty major roller coasters, this roller coaster count is only behind Six Flags Magic Mountain. In fact it is considered the roller coaster capital of the world! Nevertheless, I forged on and prepared to take on the thrill rides that lay in front of me!

Cedar Point is located right on the water of Lake Erie. It’s a beautiful location and the day we were there, the weather was lovely and breezy, making our experience very comfortable. Which is such a nice change from the typical sticky theme park experience!

The roller coaster that we liked the best while there was Top Thrill Dragster. This coaster is IMG_3383over 400 feet tall and launches you from 0 to 120mph in about 3 seconds. It was completely insane and we loved all 17 seconds of it! We also really enjoyed Raptor, Wicked Twister, and ValRavn.

If you are traveling with smaller kiddos, don’t worry there is plenty for them to enjoy that is suitable for little thrill seekers! Additionally there is an entire area dedicated to dinosaurs that you can get up close and personal with, 50 dinosaurs in fact! Just keep in mind there is a small fee to go to this part of the park, but if you have dino lovers it is worth it!

FamilyVacations U.S Tip: Most of the bigger rides are for riders 54 inches or taller so if you have little ones who fully intend on riding everything they come to, plan to bring your kids when they reach 54 inches. Trust us, planning for ride heights will help save disappointment once you are inside the park.
Family Fun at Cedar Point! The only downside we experienced really wasn’t even that serious, rather, just kind of icky and it was nothing that the park would have been able to control. Mayflies. Everywhere. They don’t bite and they really don’t bother you, they were just… EVERYWHERE. They did, however, entertain my children while we were waiting in lines, as they tried to name every one we saw. Lemons out of lemonade, right?

Other than that, everything at Cedar Point was great! The people were nice, the rides were amazing, and the views of the lake were beautiful.

For the July 4th holiday, they have several nights of fireworks and beach parties planned that sounded really fun! They offer free admission for the military during this four day event spanning July 1st -4th.
All in all, we had a fabulous time!
