Gulfport, Mississippi is situated on the Gulf Cost. The town was ravaged when hurricane Katrina came roaring through. Slowly but surely the town has rebuilt itself to its pre-Katrina glory. As is the norm, we have scouted out spots for your family to visit. We can’t wait to hear about your Gulfport trip!
Places to Stay:
Wingate by Wyndham is a great choice for your stay in Gulfport. The hotel is right on the beach and has a pretty amazing infinity pool overlooking the beach.
Holiday Inn Express is situated right across a small street from the beach but you can still get an ocean view room that will allow you to take in the beauty of the beach.
Things to do:
The Gulf Islands Water Park is located in Gulfport as well. This is a classic water park that is truly a family friendly place. If you are a lucky parent (I am not) you can enjoy the lazy river with your kiddos, mine would do the lazy river for about five seconds.
Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is a hands on children’s place to explore by climbing in the huge play area, pretending to be train engineers and create their own artistic masterpieces just to name a few ideas.
Big Play Family Fun Center is a very reasonable choice for a family activity. Do you think anyone in your family would be up for a game of mini golf? What about bumper boats or mining? Be sure to bring lots of quarters for the arcade games!
Head over to Biloxi for an afternoon and go on a shrimping tour. The trip is long enough to be informative and fun, but not so long that smaller kids would get restless. Reservations aren’t taken so make sure to arrive early so you can have a spot on the trip.
Places to Eat:
Blow Fly Inn is a great place to have on your must stop list. My kids are red beans and rice fans and any place with
out of this world banana pudding deserves a top spot on your list. Bonus – this restaurant was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives!
Slap Ya Momma’s BBQ– My family is always looking for great BBQ and this place isn’t going to disappoint! My kids love ribs so anytime we take them for good ribs and delicious pulled pork, they are very happy!
By the Slice Cafe has a breakfast that is out of this world! My family is made up of huge breakfast fans. A good breakfast can tide you over until dinner time. Think BIG breakfast! The potato wedge casserole or the omelet won’t disappoint, trust us!
Do you have plans to head to Gulfport anytime soon?
