This is a guest post written from the perspective of someone who is considering a trip to the United States. Lots of the things that we take for granted are highlights for those who have never visited before.
5 reasons why the USA is a great family adventure
With 50 diverse states, the USA is full of adventures. The vast country has so much to offer families looking for a great holiday. It’s been difficult, but we’ve picked five of the best reasons why to visit the USA:
- Theme parks
The USA is stuffed full of great theme parks. In fact, there’s so many that your entire holiday could be spent touring them. Cedar Park has 17 roller coasters to please the adrenaline junkies amongst you, the whole family will be charmed by the old-fashioned style of Knoebels and spending the day splashing in Schlitterbahn Water Park will ensure everyone has a good night’s sleep. And that’s just mentioning three.
Florida is home to some of the best amusement parks. SeaWorld, Universal, Legoland, Walt Disney World – you can see how your family could spend loads of time there. It’s been named the theme park capital of the world and is a highly recommended visit.

2. You could go on a road trip
We call them motorhomes and Americans call them recreational vehicles – but whatever you call it, traveling with your own accommodation is a fantastic adventure. Not only will you save money, but you’ll get to see loads of the country at your own pace.
3. Plenty of National Parks
From the iconic (Yosemite, Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon), to lesser visited delights (North Cascades, Congareeor Katmai), there are National Parks for everyone. Spending time in the great outdoors as a family will keep everyone happy.

- They’ll learn a lot
Travelling can provide learning experiences unlike any other. As one contributor on this blog said, there is no substitute for travel and having those experiences first-hand. In the USA, they’ll learn whilst having fun. Whether that’s in the great outdoors, in museums or on the streets of big cities, a trip will open their eyes to the world.

- Great Food
The American portion sizes might not be great for maintaining a healthy weight long-term, but having a treat or two on holiday is all part of the fun. In the USA, you can get food you can’t get elsewhere – donut burgers, deep fried Oreos, corndogs, texmex, and more. For a list of the favourite foods Americans miss when they’re away, see here.
