Staying in Stowe, Vermont
Today’s post takes us to the mountains, the mountains of Vermont to be exact. I have been doing a lot of reading lately about family friendly mountain vacations and the area kept coming up in my research. In my family there are two different camps when it comes to vacation destinations. My husband would rather head somewhere in the mountains to be in touch with nature and explore the woods and I would rather lay on the beach and listen to the waves. So we compromise often, until now.
Upon doing the research the amenities that the area has to offer are very enticing, it could be just the type of spot that would lure me away from the sound of the ocean waves!
Places to stay
Trapp Family Lodge. On the property there are so many beautiful accommodations that are offered on the property, like the main lodge and villa rentals. The kids club at the resort might just be the crown jewel of the resort. Starting in June and running through early August, activities are planned with something new to do everyday! If the name of the lodge rings a bell it might be because the family that owns the place is the von Trapp family. As in the Sound of Music, von Trapp’s. You can even go on a history tour to learn more about the famous movie family!
Another option for somewhere to lay your head while you are in town is the Stowe Mountain Lodge. Parents and kids alike will love this resort! The kids will love the activities geared towards them and the adults will dig the luxurious accommodations. You and your family can unwind and relax together all while taking in the beauty of the mountains!
Things to do
Treat your family to a carriage ride over the Vermont Countryside. The Gentle Giants carriage ride company operates 7 days a week all year long (assuming their are no weather issues). No matter the season that you decide to visit this is an activity that can be enjoyed year round!
If you are looking for something a little more fast paced check out the Arbor Trek Canopy Adventures! They offer all sorts of activities like zip line tours, treetop obstacle courses and adventure challenge programs! It looks like a great time!
Why not squeeze in a little educational time for the kids at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill? This working cider mill has so much to see and do that your kiddos will never know that they are really learning. From observing a bee colony to peeking in at the cider press in action there is a lot going on! Before you leave make sure that you watch the doughnut robot in action and then pick one up at the bakery before you leave for the day!
If you visit in the winter months, make sure you don’t miss out on the dog sled experience! It isn’t the most inexpensive activity but if you budget ahead of time for the experience you will be really glad that you did! You can check out Peacepups Dog Sledding’s website here!
Miniature golf is always a family favorite for my crew and the Stowe Golf Park has very reasonable rates! Take your kids and have a friendly (or not so friendly) competition to see who is the reigning mini golf champion of your family!
If your kids need to stretch their legs and get some energy out, head over to the Stowe Recreation Path, the path has over 5 miles to explore. It is perfect for a family bike ride or to take a walk together!
Places to Eat
The Pizza Joint has some awesome looking pies! Even if your kids are are as picky as mine are, I bet you could find something to eat that everyone would agree on!
My family is always looking for a great Mexican restaurant and Bender’s Burritos has everything that my family looks for in a Mexican place! Crunchy tacos for the kids and generous burritos for the adults!
Let us know if you and your family decide to head to Stowe!
