Anyone with a small child or anyone that has a child that used to be a small child OR anyone that has met a small child knows that small children have minds of their own and just going to the grocery store with them can cause PTSD. We have gathered a list of destinations that are intended to make your traveling with small children at least a little bit easier.
Fun for Small kids in all 50 States!
Alabama: I think that the beach is a great bet for little ones. Think giant sandbox = hours of entertainment. We wrote a post about Gulf Shores, check it out here.
Alaska: Head to Homer and check out the Islands and Oceans Visitor center, there are also lots and lots of parks to explore.
Arizona: Phoenix is a great destination for families with young kids, there is a Children’s museum, and an amusement park with a large section geared towards small kids! That is just a drop in the Phoenix bucket!
Arkansas: The Little Rock Zoo, before you roll your eyes, hear me out. This isn’t just any zoo, this is an award-winning zoo and my little ones could spend all day a the zoo. There is so much more to get into in Little Rock as well.
California: Take your kids to the tide pools at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, can’t you hear them exclaiming over the sea creatures?
Colorado: The Butterfly Pavilion, is a hands-on activity center where your little ones can hold a tarantula if they dare!
Connecticut: Go exploring at Dinosaur State Park, walk along the miles of fossil tracks that have been there since the prehistoric times.
Delaware: Head to the DuPont Environmental Education Center and learn about the city and the marsh at the same time.
Florida: Plan a visit to LegoLand, if your kids are anything like mine you will never get them to leave.
Georgia: The Georgia Aquarium is a must see while you are in the land of the peaches!
Hawaii: Why not get lost in the world’s largest maze at the Dole Pineapple Plantation.
Idaho: Let the kids run wild at the the Bruneau Dunes State Park, think sand dunes that are ok to explore.
Illinois: Head over to Millennium Park, and let the kids see “The Bean” up close. Read our post about Chicago here.
Indiana: When traveling in Indiana, Holiday World is a great place for families! They have lots of attractions for little ones!
Iowa: Stop into the Blue Bunny Museum, after all, it is the ice cream capital of the world.
Kansas: Let your kids experiment with glitter and crayons at Hallmark Kaleidoscope.
Kentucky: Your kids will get a kick out of walking over the Ohio River on the Big Four Bridge. Since we live in Kentucky we know where the fun is, check out this post, this post, or this post
Louisiana: Stop by Gators & Friends and let the kiddos see alligators up close and personal!
Maine: Check out Palace Playland, this amusement park is geared towards family fun!
Maryland: The Crayola Experience is a place where you and your kids can get creative together!
Massachusetts: If your kids are fans of his books then they will love the Eric Carle Museum!
Michigan: Let your kiddos get hands on at the Curious Kids Museum, touching the exhibits is encouraged here!
Minnesota: Catch some rays at Lake Minnetonka and have fun splashing with your kids in the swimming pond.
Mississippi: Let your kids explore the Kids Garage at the Tupelo Automobile Museum.
Missouri: Step on board the Titanic, recreated of course! Experience the full beauty of this ship with your kids!
Montana: Let your budding scientist explore at Exploration Works. Learning + Fun = Awesome!
Nebraska: From an indoor play area to planes on display to explore there is something for you whole family at the Strategic Air & Space Museum.
Nevada: There is more to Nevada than just Vegas! Let your kids stretch their legs and burn off some steam at Lake Mead National Park.
New Hampshire: Connect with your favorite storybook characters in Story Land. A theme park geared to young kids.
New Jersey: Admittedly this choice is for boys, but Diggerland Construction Theme Park looks pretty awesome!
New Mexico: Let imaginations run wild in this larger than life sculpture garden geared towards children.
New York: Get your play on at the Strong Museum of Play! It looks so amazing, even your older kids would like it!
North Carolina: All aboard! Hop on the choo-choo train express and head back to the wild west at Tweetsie Railroad Wild West Theme Park.
North Dakota: Go explore The Children’s Museum at Yunker Farm!
Ohio: Spin round and round at the Merry Go Round Museum.
Oklahoma: Go on a Safari, a Tiger Safari. Your kids will love getting to see these big cats up close and personal
Oregon: Travel above the city in the Portland Aerial Tram. Your kids will feel like they are flying high in one of these.
Pennsylvania: Check out the Dutch Wonderland Family Amusement Park. They have lots of rides for the little ones!
Rhode Island: We just love the old fashioned feel of the Atlantic Beach Park. There isn’t anything quite like a day full of bumper cars and cotton candy.
South Carolina: Your kids will get a kick out of the Wonder Works attraction, the best part is there is something for everyone.
South Dakota: Go underground at Reptile Gardens town and get up close and personal with the prairie dogs! Your kids will love being underground!
Tennessee: Gatlinburg is a great family destination! Read our post about what to do while you are in town!
Texas: Ever want to send your kids to the moon? Well, you can go with them at the Space Center attraction! Budding astronauts will love everything this museum has to offer!
Utah: Why not check out the 9th Largest Aquarium in the US while you are in town? The Living Planet Aquarium will be gallons of fun for your kids.
Vermont: My kids are very attached to their stuffed animals. The Vermont Teddy Bear factory allows them to get up close and personal on a factory tour!
Virginia: Let your kids be farm hands for the day. The Heritage Farm museum lets kids get an idea of what being a farmer is like. Have you ever wanted to milk a cow? Here’s your chance.
Washington: Feed wild animals right from the comfort of your car! Olympic Game Farm is a one of a kind attraction.
West Virginia: Spend the day at Camden Park, think about the rides you loved as a kid and experience them through your children’s eyes all over again.
Wisconsin: Spend the day with your kids riding the swings or the bumper boats, at the Bay Beach Amusement Park.
Wyoming: Go marvel at God’s creation at the Hot Springs State Park. There is something pretty amazing about the hot springs, share it with your kids!
