Things to do in Gulf Shores when it rains

Things to do in Gulf Shores when it rains

Let’s face it, no one really wants to be faced with a rainy day when they are on a beach vacation. But, no one can control Mother Nature, when you figure out how to do that, please let me know!

So, we’ve come up with a list of things to do when it rains in Gulf Shores!

It is always a good idea to have a rainy day beach plan in your back pocket, you know, in case of a rainy day!

Things to do when it rains in Gulf Shores

Go Catch a Movie

Believe it or not, even when we aren’t traveling, going to see a movie isn’t something that we do on a very regular basis. I mean heck, the movies can get expensive! Combine a rainy day at the beach with a movie that your family has been wanting to see and you are set! There are two theaters in the area, one in Gulf Shores ( Cobb Pinnacle 14 ) and one in Orange Beach at The Wharf ( AMC Classic Wharf 15 )

Spend time at The Wharf

Speaking of The Wharf, if you go for a movie, why not take some time to get some shopping in?

I am still kicking myself for not grabbing this super cute Orange Beach t-shirt and sticker that I saw from the Orange Beach store while we were there!

There are of course, outdoor activities to do at The Wharf when the weather is better, like the wheel and mini golf, so make sure to back for those things.

Visit Fort Morgan

Hear me out on this one, technically Fort Morgan is an outdoor attraction, but we chose to visit in years past when it had been drizzling just a little bit. It made for a nice break from the intense heat, and there are a lot of buildings in and around Fort Morgan that you can pop in and out of, keeping you somewhat drying during your visit.

Go to OWA

Again, while OWA is primarily outdoors, there are some fantastic places to eat as well as things to do.

OWA is about 30 minutes North of Gulf Shores in Foley Alabama, so it isn’t a bad drive at all!

When we visited, the boys loved The Arcade at OWA. Anytime we can get in a game of ski ball or down the clown is a good day in our book!

Since our last trip, they’ve added Clash eSports Center, this is a gaming center. They offer a choice of time on PCs, PS4s, Nintendo Switches, and Xboxes, all available by the hour.

Get Crafty

There is nothing quite like throwing pottery on a wheel or taking a previously fired clay creation and painting it.

You can do all of those things at The Clay Studio at the Coastal Art Center.

Appointments are required, so make sure to give them a call before you go!

Do an escape room

There are an abundance of escape rooms in the area. While I haven’t done an escape room in Gulf Shores, I have (successfully) completed a handful.

My kids have been asking forever to do one of these rooms. We never seem to have the time when we are at home. A rainy beach day might just be the best time to do one!

Some Gulf Shores Escape rooms:

XIT Escape Room
Breakout Games
Gulf Coast Escape Room
Espionage at Mobile Point

Just Relax

How often are you presented with the chance to just kick back and relax with your family? There is something very appealing to grabbing a book and reading while watching and listening to the waves.

If your family is more of the game sort of family, play a favorite board game together!

No one likes a rainy day at the beach, but there is lots of fun indoor activities in Gulf Shores. Check out our suggestions for things to do when it rains in Gulf Shores

No matter what activity you end up doing, my motto is always that a rainy day at the beach is better than no day at the beach!
